Funny you should ask, I actually forgot (twice) to put that in my review. But basically, less than 10 hours I'd say. How much less depends on your pace.

This article made me realize there's no accomodations for the Winter Classic in this series. I'd be a little surprised if EA didn't make the Winter Classic the big push for NHL 12, especially after this year's Pens/Caps matchup that the NHL is betting so much on.

The game is very complex. It took me quite a while to stop looking like a chump on the ice. Also, NHL 11 seems to be getting a lot of flak recently due to some updates from EA that change the game around for the worse. I've only noticed that the passing is extremely finicky now, and the rosters were all kinds of messed up before (and shortly after) the latest update, which took forever to arrive. Might want to wait for NHL 12. On the other hand, I can't deny it's still fun.

And weren't the Blues doing really well for a while? I know Halak started the season very strong with some shutouts...including the one against the Pens :-(

How long would you say the game lasts? Just curious, planning on playing this very soon, now that I'm committed to killing my backlog before buying any new games (except maybe the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 in January!)

Looking forward to playing this (and the rest of the Humble Indie Bundle). I can't remember the last time I played a horror game. Does Resident Evil 4 count?

LET'S GO BLUES! AHHHHH! ...actually, the blues JUST broke their 5 game losing streak, but they're still awesome!

I've been really considering getting a console NHL game, this might have ot be the one I pick up.

  • The Lion King   13 years 23 weeks ago

Wow. I totally remember too playing this game. I loved it. I was about 6 then. And we only had the demo. Or I wasn't good enough to get pass level 1 ;)
Thank you so much for sharing!

  • Dance Central   13 years 23 weeks ago

Heads up: apparently Old Navy will be giving out copies of Dance Central on Black Friday. Well, with $25 in clothing purchases, anyway. Also you'll still have to buy Kinect.

  • Dance Central   13 years 23 weeks ago

When the Kinect lineup was revealed at E3, the only game that looked appealing to me was Dance Central (and Child of Eden, but I had no idea what it was!). Glad to see my judgment is as sound as ever.

But yeah, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thinking about buying Kinect for this game at some point.

  • Dance Central   13 years 23 weeks ago

I've been torn on the second question. I would say yes, if Kinect wasn't $150. I've told a lot of people the last few days, "I'd love to own Dance Central, but I'm not going to pay $200 for it" (game + Kinect price). Of course, you would then have a Kinect too, but I haven't seen or played any other software to make the purchase worthwhile at the moment.

I would easily lay down $100 for this, but at this point in time, it's too much.

As for whether it's Kinect's killer app or not? I'd say no. Yes, the game is great and I didn't have any problems with the technology, but it's not so mind blowing that it immediately legitimizes the platform. It is still just a dancing game, even if it is the best game available for the Kinect, at the moment.

Now you've got me thinking about what the killer app is on the Wii? Is it Wii Sports? Because if you look beyond that there's not a lot of defining material. There obviously has to be a killer app on the Wii though as the thing sold like hotcakes upon release, so I'm guessing it's either just the tech itself or Wii Sports.

  • Dance Central   13 years 23 weeks ago

Wow, this actually sounds like a blast. One question, is this a killer app? Is it worth shelling out for Kinect for this game?

  • Sin & Punishment: Star Successor   13 years 23 weeks ago

One of the best gaming experiences I've had in years. I rarely play through a game more than once anymore, but I finished S&P2 three times in the week I rented it. Then I bought it so I could play it more.

  • Sin & Punishment: Star Successor   13 years 23 weeks ago

I was pretty skeptical about the controls but after seeing a gameplay video, it does actually seem to work out well. Props to Treasure.

  • Sonic the Hedgehog 4 - Episode 1   13 years 24 weeks ago

Keep in mind, this is all from playing just the first Act of Splash Hill from the demo...

I wasn't a fan. I love Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and was hoping Sonic 4 would continue from that high point, but I just wasn't getting that feel from the game at all. It felt like an odd combination of Sonic 1 and Sonic Rush, neither of which I really care for that much.

Sonic 4 doesn't seem like a bad game (at least in its current state....the early build leaked this summer looked just awful), but it also isn't what I was hoping the series revival would be.

Reader review/blog post more or less. I met Greg in a forum he and (now) I both frequent, learned of his site, asked to join, showed him my stuff (which he seemed to like), and now here I am.

Welcome. So I assume this was just from a reader review of some sort on ign? Or are you freelance for them perhaps?

  • GoldenEye 007   13 years 24 weeks ago

Not sure why Xenia's hair looks white in that pic, she has black hair in the game. But yes, all the character models are based on completely different people than the original 1995 cast. I miss fat Valentin...

As for the controls, there are enough options for all three setups (mote/chuk, classic controller, Gamecube) that I think everybody can find something to like.

  • GoldenEye 007   13 years 24 weeks ago

Every match of Golden Gun mode I've played online is a hectic kind of fun. Going after the man with the Golden Gun is so tempting, but you know you're in danger if he spots you first. I actually won a few matches without ever picking it up; leaving it on the ground and luring people in with it has been a more viable strategy for me. Likewise, as soon as you grab it, you know you're going to have more people pouncing on you than you can handle.

  • GoldenEye 007   13 years 24 weeks ago

Golden Gun mode is absolutely worthless with only two players. Seriously. When you've got a large group, everyone will target whoever has it, so they can get points quickly but will also die quickly. When you've only got two, it's little more than a ridiculous advantage.

Other than that, I've really enjoyed this game. It's not ridiculously overcomplicated the way a lot of FPS games tend to be nowadays, and it's got brilliant map design for the multiplayer levels. Honestly, I think that's what sets apart a good multiplayer shooter from a great one; levels like Blood Gulch in Halo just seem thrown together for the sake of being symmetrical, whereas all the maps in this game really feel like a lot of thought was put into them, with tremendous focus on balance, but still allowing for vastly different playstyles and strategies.

  • GoldenEye 007   13 years 24 weeks ago

I have to admit, you've convinced me to try this game out. Seems pretty fun as long as the controls don't get in the way. I have great memories of the original but feel it has aged too much.

And what did they do to my beloved Xenia Onatopp character model?!

  • Best console generation for gaming?   13 years 25 weeks ago

For me at least, this was the peak of console gaming. I devoted more time to this generation than any other, and the majority of titles I've played (and completed) were born during this period. This era holds some of my greatest memories as a child and some of my fondest gaming memories period.

  • Best console generation for gaming?   13 years 25 weeks ago

I withhold any vote because this is a really hard decision.

Either 2, 3, or 4 could take it.

  • Best console generation for gaming?   13 years 25 weeks ago

SNES/Genesis all the way. You've got the classic Sonics, as well as pretty much all of Nintendo's IPs at the top of their game (Mario, Kirby, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, though not Zelda since OoT was better), as well as a TON of wonderful RPGs.
