Great to hear from you, I've been playing more and have been really enjoying it. Am definitely looking forward to the Eufloria HD release, and will try to provide more impressions for it upon release!

Thanks again and keep up the great work!

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the comments. We always try to take on board what people say and that's how we've continued to iterate the game. Eufloria HD really is a different kettle of fish to the original so we would push for any reviews to be of the latest version. Balancing has changed but so have many other little details.

We do plan on adding a proper 'relaxed' mode and levels in our next and major update in spring/summer next year. Indeed, that and additional modding aspects are why we have held back the official PC/mac/Linux HD builds, although they were previewed for humble bundle android owners.

One thing I would say. As people find out when they play more, you can play most levels by amassing seedlings (not all) but you can also play quite differently. We have considered adding a timed mode which forces better players to play more tactically.

The reason I mention this is that it's quite deliberate. We allow players to choose how they play. It's allowed us to cover off a really wide range of gamers and many people who tell us they never play games. Check the iTunes Store reviews and you'll see a little of what we mean. The game is deeper than you may think, just not done by-the-numbers, ie endless slightly upgraded unit types.

It does have a mix of relaxing and feverishness, but that can be partially controlled by the speed and game mode. As a game, it's easy to waste time on, a curiously horrendous amount of time I've found! That said, rudolf wants a relaxed game mode in because he wants players to have the option to totally chill out and just colonise, more or less.

Anyone buying Eufloria on steam will get Eufloria HD in future incidentally.

One minor correction/additional. Eufloria is now developed by 5 people although not all at the same time by any means. Usually only 1 or 2 people, and currently usually none as some of us are doing a spin off game, Eufloria Adventures.

Finally, we just got into Apple's Best of 2012 :) Runner up best iPad game/hidden gem! Woohoo!

  • How Persona 3 destroyed my love for Japanese RPGs   11 years 20 weeks ago

Persona 3 FES = Best game I have ever played.

Sure it can be repetitive at first, but eventually you begin to get a feel for it. It also had a very unique atmosphere. The story is incredible and the characters are well developed. If you get past the rap, then the music in the game is some of the best I have ever heard in my life (especially final boss theme). It has a social link system that is set up to keep many stories going throughout the main story.

The battle system is very well developed, but it is developed for people who take large amounts of strategy into battle. If you do not have good strategy skills, then you will by the time you are finished with Persona 3. In fact, I think the Persona 3 battle system has one of the most unique systems I have ever used.

Honestly, Persona 3 takes a different kind of view. A person who is only accustomed to non-turn based shooting killer games isn't near as likely to enjoy it as someone who enjoys strategy and uniqueness. Keep in mind that this game has a dark atmosphere (which is one of the reasons that I love it so much).

Overall, I definitely suggest this game to almost anyone. Every single person (other than this guy) that I have heard of who has played this game has absolutely LOVED it, including me. I suggest you go buy yourself the game and give it a try. Easily the best game I have played.

Oh man, I can feel your R&C hate literally steaming off the page!

Haven't played this one--or really any of the current gen titles for the series--but All 4 One seems to be geared towards co-op play. Maybe it's more fun with someone else to challenge or have help from. I really enjoyed the PS2 R&C titles, and just finished playing a PSP port called Size Matters. Those are more traditional in a sense in that you have a mostly open level to explore and move through, acquiring bolts and upgrading your weapons from continued use. Don't think you'll be missing anything great from All 4 One, especially in terms of gameplay and story.

No it isn't Final Fantasy XIII-2 is an abomination that shouldn't ever exist. I consider more ff games I played to be worst *cough* FF3 to be honest I find final fantasy games a hit and a miss after X. The main series just went downhill 13 for all of it's flaws I found it was way better than ff11 which was a crappy mmo and ff12 which bored me from the start.

  • Eufloria   11 years 20 weeks ago

I think one of Eufloria's greatest strengths is its perchance to juxtaposition. Too many RTS games just load you up with swords, axes, and laser rifles. Eufloria shows you a world of seeds and their trees - then it loads it with seed bombs, and flower turrets. The misdirection is sublime. And, if I may say, it's a proper good challenge the further you get into the game.

Even with its challenge, the game is still a measure of beautiful simplicity. You don't need to know a list of keyboard shortcuts, or recipes for the perfect tech-tree. Asteroids with producing trees will simply produce seedlings; all other tools come at random. A clever thought is that each asteroid will stop producing seeds after a certain number (typically 40 in my experience) are crowded around. This stops you from just building a tanking line with the best stats in seedlings, and also defence trees. You're constantly encouraged to move onwards and upwards.

Now, I do see the point about the stats and the art not quite meshing, but I don't think it's really to the title's detriment. Perhaps it diminishes the art value, but ultimately Eufloria is a simple and streamlined RTS for the person that wants to retain a modicum of difficulty, but without the complexities of typical modern game design. And at its core, it's simply gorgeous. It might not be for everyone, but Eufloria left an impression on me.

And most importantly, it makes me feel awesome at games even when I'm too tired to play anything else effectively.

The player can perform various missions for different factions, but it is not required to complete every mission available. A mission involves one or multiple objectives that include stealing, delivery, retrieval, or destruction of certain items or vehicles, assassinating targets, and destruction of an enemy camp or stronghold. Oftentimes, a mission provides a bonus goal which may be completed for extra cash.

a 5? pshh this game deserves alot i know the game itself can get gay and repatative but honestly, its had a pretty good driveing narrative and the game play isnt so bad. Sure the annoying side missions get you but going to the actual assassination mission is just awesome. and all worth it. Idk how you call this bad and give the call of duty franchise better numbers. I mean cod has multiplayer but the problem with multiplayer is WHO WANTS TO PLAY THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN? Honestly cod has a decent narrative but the gameplay is terrible just cover based shooting, once you get bored with this hide out move to the next. i honestly dont think ur not catching on to the story to well. plz reply btw becuase i will come bak to you if u do

Don't mind those people how are being rude. It's your opinion and u get to state it if you want to. I LOVE THIS GAME, but it doesn't mean you have to!! I personal think though that you should try at least Persona 4, its amazing :3!!!

To the people who are just plain rude: (by the way i HATE rude ppl so.... prepare yourselves, you've been warned)
I'm a FanGirl of the whole Atlus smt series (<3 persona and devil survivor :3).BUT...This is just a GAME. I don't know why people are so angry, gosh. If you don't like the review then don't read it. You guys saw BY THE TITLE that he wasn't pro-persona so if you were a giant persona fan then u didn't need to press the link. At least ACT civil. What happened to freedom of speech?Plus, most of you guys are hiding behind you computers thinking that just because your "anonymous" that you can say whatever you want. If your going to be rude and mean then i don't think u belong on this page. Go find some one else to hate on.>:(

Hey, i like this game too. It's one of my favorites actually. But... if the guy says he doesn't like it, he doesn't like it. Its a GAME after all and its his opinion. No need to be so mean.

  • Wii Truths Day 5: Game Spotlights   11 years 22 weeks ago

It's pretty awesome. Voice chat works super slick, just like skype. It has a bit of trouble if both people speak at the same time. Zombie-U is probably the best launch title I've played in ages. Nintendoland is pretty fun, a little overdone but a blast with the kiddos. The controller and its associated tech is really impressive. The Pro Controller is the best traditional controller I've used. Better than the 360 controller even and that's saying something (curiously, the triggers are not analog so sim racing games could be a challenge). A couple of software/hardware design oddities that have me scratching me head is the only downside so far. I really REALLY hope this thing doesn't get abandoned in a year or two.

The bow-shooting was very nice in the Wii version. In fact, in some hilarious irony, the horseback escort mission went down as my favorite part of the game because the bow-shooting was one of the highlights for me. It didn't quite make up for the lazy waggle sword for me, but it was close.

Didn't know that about the extra item slot, though it makes sense. Thanks for the input.

  • Wii Truths Day 5: Game Spotlights   11 years 23 weeks ago

a million for this. It really does bring hindsight into 20/20 focus. Amazing job. I'll just reiterate that I was really disappointed with Excite Bots. If they had simply bolted the online component onto Excite Trucks, I would have been thrilled, but they took a great game, with a bit of zaniness to it and completely pushed it over the edge. I get what they were doing, but it's just not what I wanted out of that franchise.

    Lastly,
"The WarioWare series and its rapid-fire microgames bathe in absurdity, and its Wii entry was no different than its Game Boy Advance or Nintendo DS titles in that regard. But unlike its portable predecessors, Smooth Moves has the advantage of a host console that is, to some extent, inherently ridiculous. Nobody plays Wii to look cool, after all. Even the focus group-approved actor families in the commercials look awkward in their animated enthusiasm. But while Wii Sports has a veneer of self-respect, WarioWare proudly bounced off the walls, especially when players were passing the Wii remote around every five seconds. Its machine gun pace, low maintenance, and outrageous tasks combined for a perfect storm of party hilarity."

That's damn fine writing. Keep up the great work.

  • Wii Truths Day 5: Game Spotlights   11 years 23 weeks ago

"Few would say that the Wii controls were a benefit to the game"

I'm not so sure I agree with this. While it really didn't impact the swordplay in any meaningful way, it was quite helpful for first person aiming, such as the bow and arrow. The extra item slot afforded by the Wii Remote's D-Pad also significantly reduced the amount of time spent swapping weapons in the menu in some dungeons.

That's not to say these things made a HUGE difference, certainly nobody would've complained about them if the game had only gotten a GameCube release to begin with, but it's definitely noticeable if you've played both versions.

  • Wii Truths Day 4: Digital Distribution   11 years 23 weeks ago

You transfer your ACCOUNT on SD card?
Hmm, I better go figure this out so I'm ready on Sunday.

  • Wii Truths Day 4: Digital Distribution   11 years 23 weeks ago

You can transfer your VC/WiiWare account from a Wii to a Wii U through an SD card.

And yeah, I just played Altered Beast for the first time a few weeks ago on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection and man...it is straight up awful. One of the worst games I've ever played. Hilarious audio, though.

  • Wii Truths Day 4: Digital Distribution   11 years 23 weeks ago

It was the Genesis of SSF2. And not even a Turbo version. Just a bizarre decision. As for licensing, I don't blame Nintendo or anything, I just thought it was funny they changed assets in an N64 game to Wii and DS ads.

Here's why Earthbound isn't on Virtual Console, epic read:

  • Wii Truths Day 4: Digital Distribution   11 years 23 weeks ago

Hey, do you know about VC and WiiWare titles and how/if they will be transferable to the Wii-U? I've not seen any definitive info on this. It's the only part of my apprehension to grab a Wii-U at launch. If I can't transfer my VC/WiiWare purchases, I'll be pretty bummed.

I have probably 30 purchases total, mostly classic stuff, some newer stuff like Lost Winds, Toki Tori, etc. It's funny, I was totally a Nintendo kid (I noticed your Nintendon't comment above) and would never admit to wanting a Sega, had to always talk about how bad it was. But there was always a little part of me that wanted to play games like Sonic, Golden Axe, OutRun, Shinobi, etc. But the biggest of the bunch was Altered Beast. I remember seeing it in a local arcade and man that game looked amazing! (but I could never admit it) So, naturally, once it was on WiiWare I quietly snuck down into my basement, made sure none of my 1st Gen Nintendo accessories could see me and downloaded a Sega game. And oh boy was it bad. Golden Axe was pretty bad too. I remember the sigh of relief I had as I realized that my Nintendo advocacy had not been in vein! :)

"Look closely at the Wave Race 64 screenshot above. Anything about it seem...prophetic? Check the background: how does a 1996 Nintendo 64 launch title have in-game advertisements for a console launched ten years later? In the VC update, Nintendo decided to remove all in-game product placement for expired licensing deals (including Kawasaki and Fanta) and replaced them with ads for Wii and Nintendo DS. Corporate editing wasn’t the only VC tampering going on: photography safari game Pokemon Snap was modified to allow players to save their in-game photos to the Wii Message Board, where the snapshots could be sent to friends. And perhaps the most unexpected Virtual Console upgrade appeared in Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers. It was the fifth version of Street Fighter II to get a VC release, but it boasted a feature completely unique* among Virtual Console games: online play. It’s hard to imagine why Capcom decided to enable online play for a single version of Street Fighter II released in Wii's twilight: had it been done earlier, it might have set a precedent for more online-enabled VC re-releases."

Changes for licensing isn't really Nintendo's fault. Contracts often don't allow developers to keep the original content, and in that case it's likely better modified than not released at all/pulled from storefronts (like Outrun 2 and others are; I have no idea how Sega was so inept at negotiating all of those contracts in the digital distribution age). In some cases it could be really disappointing though, like if they change all the music and locations in Crazy Taxi :( The VP of Capcom gave some insights into licensing a while ago:

That's also kinda funny that they randomly added online play for SSF2. Was that even the arcade version or just an SNES port?
